Willow and the Molten Front

Some of you know, I'm having fps problems in there. I decided to go check it out at 3am my time, it was actually playable. Any other time my fps drops into the single digits making it unplayable for me unless I'm with somebody else. Pretty much fps below 15ish, is unplayable.

For Tainted, it reminds me of the suppression room in BWL, but there I could face a wall, I can't here.

To see the fps, look for the white box at the top of each image, the first number on the left is my fps.

1. In the bank in SW. (anything between 50-80 is really good for me).
2. First inside the portal, facing the tree.
3. First turnaround looking at where I have to go to kill things.
4. Down in the mix of it, but this was at 3am my time. Most times when I attempt it, whether during the day, evening or anytime other than the middle of the night, I'm lucky to hit 10.

My vid settings are in Image 5 and 6. If anybody can think of what to set them at to help improve the fps, I'd appreciate it. As of right now they are all set lower than the recommended for my vid card.

I will find an article that I read where every option in graphics and advanced is broken down performance wise. I will post it or just post the link and from there I will let you make your own decisions because it depends on the person. Some people can sacrifice performance for a little bit better looking game. Or some people want the most performance for what they have. And....some want both wink

Me, I want a playable game, but with some decent graphics, doesn't have to be the best. Sure, I've learned there are actually leaves on trees, those are nice to be able to see. There are also rivets on the walls in IF, but I don't need to see those. It's no fun to not realize there is a mountain up ahead, until I actually run into it. I don't need to see everybody's spells, but I do need to see my own. And there are just some places, Nightbane comes to mind, that seeing the charred earth was a necessity.

Thanks Russ, I'll look over the guides and see what I can do to make the experience better than what it is.

It's my pleasure.

The article explains all that and more. It covers all of it. Hardware, software, and the WoW display options. I posted it under 'Immortal Ones General Discussion'.

I really do hope it helps you out and makes your game experience more enjoyable and less of a headache.

My vid card is actually listed in the article. I have the AMD HD 4850. I've dialed down a lot of the settings. Reading the article now, to see what tweaks it recommends.

As far as the rest of the hardware, mine is below anything they have listed there, I think. Tainted would know for sure.

I've tried taking some of my other toons to the Molten Front, the ones that can solo it a lot better than Willow, no such luck. If I thought it was bad with her, it's worse with them. My feral druid died 3x, 2 of which were because mobs were attacking me and I couldn't see them yet. Slow mo anybody, lol?

Tol'Borad used to be the same way for me, until everybody else moved on to the Firelands dailies, now Tol'Borad is fairly empty and I have no real problems there. Any of the BG's are bad.

I know how Angree felt, there are days when I'm dealing with the single digit framerates and thinking, I need to go hide in Angree's corner.

Edit - Well I tweaked some of the settings, it brought it up 4 fps on the hill overlooking the area. I'll wait until Firelands is old, much like I have done with Tol'Borad before I attempt anything solo in there. In the meantime, at least there are 3 daily quests I can do outside of the Firelands portal to get marks. There are just some things that you have to find workarounds for. BWL, it was face the wall, lol. If I find that I'm still awake at 3am, then I can go thru the portal and do those dailies or do it with others. (Dave wink can I leech off of you, and ride in your choppa so I don't fall off a cliff?).

The first half is about ideal hardware/software setups and comparisons. Towards the end of the article, I believe the second half of the contents, the author breaks down all the settings and how they effect gameplay. Which is useful for anyone.

Should I dig through the article and get the meat and post it here instead of having to go to the url and sift through?

Melee is a bad idea for low fps. Exception, paladins. When I was in Afghan with low fps and triple/quadruple digit ms. I was leveling up my paladin, he had plate armor and didn't have to change stances or forms to heal and melee effectively. I can see a cat/druid being very painful to play with in those circumstances. Spell casters work out pretty well for the most part.

I would say the easiest to play would be the class or spec with the least micro-managing and least amount of buttons to push. That said, I definitely see why Willow is easier in balance versus Aspen in feral. And currently feral is the hardest melee dps to get right, close second is rogue subtlety(I don't play right now, but I do read a lot). There is definitely a special technique to playing in severe lag/low fps/high ms LOL.

Yea, Aspen in there is impossible, even in bear I die. Balance on Willow is far easier, but I'm having a terrible time targeting mobs. Most times by the time I get a cast off, I get the notice that they have to be in front of me...grrrr. Give me health bars to look at, that way I'm not necessarily looking at the screen and it's slow mo effects. Hey, health bars don't seem to be affected by low fps, lol.

Yea, I went thru the list. I turned projected textures on, because I do want to see my own spells, and I turned particle density down to low. Rest are about as low as they can go at Fair or disabled.

I'll get my system specs in a little bit.

Thats true, health bars are pretty stable. Thats why my pally worked out when I was in Afghan. Yeah, I'm sure once you're done going through everything and tweaking here and there it will work out a little bit better for you.

Dave just let Willow leech from him, so I got them done with her.

Here is my computer http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum...roduct=3436817.

We've upgraded the power supply, OS, and vid card, but I think that's it.

I know in the MF zone my comps frame rate will drop it will even dip as low as 18 for a split second. I also notice the 4 4" fans winding up a few hundred RPM to keep the comp cool.

I could live with 18, as I said, 15ish is about as low as I can go and still be kinda playable. 25+ would be a lot better. But most of the time I'm in the single digits. Actually had some 7.0 in there today, most of the time it was around 15.7 (Dave was with me). Certain areas, I'd hit 40, other areas it bottomed out. Pretty much no activity, I'm fine, but if I engage anything it drops like a rock.

I remember your lag/dps in Afghan, as you said you could play the pally. You also played your hunter some too, but found the pally was easier.

Yep, the pally was perfect. Plate armor, heals, and easy melee mechanics when questing/leveling. No need for a perfect rotation and enough survive-ability to make up for hitting the wrong button or missing something in the rotation because the heals and plate make up for it.

I would imagine a DK wouldn't be a bad choice for leveling/questing in severe lag. Enhance shaman might work well too.

So I've been playing Sheri there the last couple of days. FPS consistently stays between 25-35, only dipping as low as 17.9. While Willow was always in the teens dipping into the low single digits.

Sheri is micro managed via a few macros. So I'm only hitting a few keys. I don't see most of her spells, since they are dots. Whereas with Willow, most of her moves are spells, very few dots.

Because of the pauses I'm now getting, coupled with the fps problems, and the security alerts, it has been determined that it might not be my vid card. It is probably my processor. I'm only a dual core, 3gb ram, running Windows 7.

Well I know it can't be an addon problem if I'm getting the pauses on the computer in other places. Such as I'm getting them here as well, when I type. Been fighting that problem for a long time, but didn't put 2 and 2 together until today. Some of the simplest, graphic wise, faceook games cause the same problem I have in WoW, bringing me to a standstill. Nothing like a green grass background looking like the snowy plains...

This computer is also over 4 yrs old. The average lifespan of a well used computer is less, more like between 2-3 yrs. Most computers for me last 3 yrs.

I think back when Will initially looked at it, we had turned off a lot of the addons. Unfortunately some of the addons I have to have, or I can't play the game. Perl or some other addon that allows me to enlarge the frames is a necessity.
